I’m 37 year old, bassist Charles “Charley” Mishalany. Now permanently living in Marietta, Georgia, I was a resident of the Los Angeles area for over 27 years. I’m a seasoned, professional bassist/bass teacher who plays both upright acoustic and electric bass.
Stylistic versatility is my strength as I cover a wide variety of musical genres from R&B, Big Band and ensemble Jazz, Top40 pop/disco/rock, Latin, Reggae, Contemporary Christian, Country and Blues.
I’ve performed with artists such as Isaac Hayes, Louis Bellson, Rick Founds, Tom Booth, Chris Williams, Chariya Bissonette, members of Oingo Boingo and many more. I’ve also opened for bands such as Sublime, Sugar Ray, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, VooDoo Glow Skulls, Skeletones, Hepcat and the Skatalites.
My experience also includes musical theater performance, live television broadcasts (Channel 5 with Gale Anderson), movie soundtracks (HBO), tv commercials (Lexus car), national and international touring ( across U.S., Canada, Central and South America) and cruise ships.
In addition to live performance, I do studio work on both upright acoustic and 4,5 and 6 string fretted and fretless electric basses.
My equipment includes both modern and vintage 4,5, and 6 string fretted and fretless basses to fit any situation. I also have a three-quarter size Wilfer, upright, acoustic bass. I use high end, quality amplifiers and cabinets. I am currently endorsed by La Bella strings.
Before relocating to Georgia, I was the principal bass instructor at the Orange County Music Academy in Fullerton, CA and taught at two additional private studios in the Los Angeles and South Orange County areas.
Besides earning a B.A. from Loma Linda University, I’ve gained an education in the musical arts from both music vocational schools and world-class private instructors.
I graduated from the Faunt School of Creative Music, specializing in bass. I’ve also attended the Harrison School of Music where I’ve taken classes in Theory, Ear Training, Bass Technique, Music Business, Recording, and Pop Piano.
My private instruction has also helped me become a well-rounded player. I’ve studied with world famous bassists and non-bassists such as : Bunny Brunnel, Jerry Watts, Putter Smith, Joel DeBartello (the Tonight Show), Mark Massey, Zac Matthews, Paul Shannon, Mary Buttwinick and Leslie Baker.
People have described me as a dedicated, prompt professional who works well with others. With a great attitude and lots of experience, let me lay down a groove to support and strengthen your sound. |
